Art inspires design – and design inspires art. Even though artist don’t like to be called designer and designer don’t like to be called artist, I do thing that both can influence and inspire each other greatly. I personally am a big fan of design, which is able to blur the line between elements of design and art. Designers that have managed this blend between art and design exceptionally well is London-based-duo THÉVOZ & CHOQUET. Their artistic and experimental take on lighting and objects is both beautiful and functional.
The Nova Lamps are a minimal light collection created by Virgile Thévoz and Josephine Choquet in 2015 for the mobilab gallery in Lausanne (CH). With the marble experts bloc studios they collaborated on this uniquely beautiful furniture and accessory collection. Together they created the unique spherical forms made out of carrara marble, which each balance a glowing opalescent tube of light. The natural colouring of the carrara marble and the balancing of the light gives each piece its unique artistic appearance.
