The minimalist movement

Clean minimal lines, free surfaces, lots of white space and high contrast. Those are all attributes we associate with modern minimalism. I get drawn to a more natural and monochrome color palette, simple shapes and a clutter-free space.

Where nature meets minimalism

The blend between organic shapes, combined with a more natural color scheme has definitely influenced the minimal movement. In my opinion, this development is based on a growing love for handmade objects, such as ceramic, stonework and rattan. These elements create a beautiful symbiosis if combined in a minimal setting. I love how the natural colors and shapes brake the cold and sterile tendency of the common minimalism and create a cozier, warmer and comfortable design environment.

Here are some of my favorite accessories and styling ideas to add some more natural elements to your minimal interior.

The ZWEI Home collection

Of course, this style also has personally inspired us, so we tried to implement this aesthetic with our own furniture design.

We created our AC table lamp combining the clean and cold lines of our chrome lamp neck with a natural hand turned beechwood base. Inspired by the color, structure, and pattern of natural silk, we created our silk panels which showcase the beauty of this natural and raw material.

The EFTERTANKE collection by IKEA

On my last visit to IKEA, I totally fell in love with their new EFTERTANKE collection. The mix between its minimal shapes and the handcrafted natural surfaces is simply beautiful. Plus the EFTERTANKE was created together with social entrepreneurs in Thailand, who are using business as a way to create better living conditions for the people of the region.

The Basked option

A clever and functional possibility to add some rough minimalism to your home is adding some storage with baskets. Personally, I am liking the Baskets by Studio Gorm, the traditional French market basket or the work of Valentina Hoyos

Adding nature

Adding plants and flowers are the easiest way to add some texture and natural colors to a clean and minimal interior. Especially more earth colored plants with a lot of textures make for a stunning rough and minimal interior styling.
